NordVPN delivers an unmatched feature set with genuine privacy protection. The NordLynx protocol is blazing fast, Threat Protection blocks ads system-wide, and the massive server network ensures reliable access worldwide.
We tested NordVPN over a 30-day period from five locations across the US and Europe. Speed tests were conducted using WireGuard (NordLynx) and OpenVPN UDP on 1 Gbps fiber connections. Streaming tests covered Netflix US, UK, and Japan libraries, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, and BBC iPlayer. Leak tests included DNS, IPv6, WebRTC, and torrent IP checks. We also reviewed privacy policy language, audit reports, and transparency documentation.

In-Depth Overview
Founded in 2012 by cybersecurity veterans, NordVPN has grown into one of the world’s largest consumer VPN services. Headquartered in Panama — a jurisdiction outside the 14 Eyes surveillance alliance — the company operates a massive global server network with thousands of servers across nearly 100 countries.
NordVPN completed its transition to RAM-only (diskless) servers, meaning no data is written to hard drives and all information is wiped on reboot. The provider has commissioned multiple independent audits of its no-logs policy by PwC and Deloitte, and its applications have been penetration-tested by VerSprite.
The service offers NordLynx, a custom WireGuard-based protocol built for speed on modern connections, while maintaining OpenVPN and IKEv2/IPsec for compatibility with older devices. Additional features include Double VPN (multi-hop), Onion over VPN, Threat Protection (ad/tracker/malware blocking), split tunneling, and a dedicated IP add-on.
NordVPN supports up to 10 simultaneous connections and offers native apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Android TV, and Fire TV. Browser extensions are available for Chrome and Firefox.
The server network spans major regions worldwide, including North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and South America, with virtual server locations advertised for regions where physical server deployment is challenging.
