Dedicated IP
Provides a unique IP address not shared with other users, useful for accessing corporate networks or avoiding CAPTCHAs.
How It Works
Unlike shared IPs where hundreds of users egress from the same address, a dedicated IP is assigned exclusively to one account. The VPN gateway maintains a static 1:1 NAT mapping between the user's tunnel interface and the public IP. Traffic from that account always appears to originate from the same, non-recycled IP address, allowing remote services to build a consistent reputation for that address.
Advantages
- Avoids CAPTCHA challenges that are frequently triggered by shared VPN IPs with mixed reputation
- Enables access to corporate networks, banking portals, and services that whitelist specific IPs
- Reduces the chance of being rate-limited on APIs and web scraping targets
- Lowers the risk of IP blacklisting due to other users' activity on the same IP
- Provides a consistent geolocation for services that use IP-based location detection
Disadvantages
- Costs significantly more than shared IP access — dedicated IPs require reserved address space on the provider's infrastructure
- Reduces anonymity since all traffic from a single user is tied to one persistent IP address over time
- May still be flagged by some services if the IP range is published as belonging to a VPN provider
- Not available on all server locations — limited to specific cities or regions selected by the provider
- Cannot be reassigned instantly if the IP becomes blacklisted; resolution depends on the provider's delisting process
Security Impact
Neutral — the security properties of the VPN tunnel (encryption, authentication) remain identical; however, the persistent IP reduces anonymity and makes user activity easier to correlate across sessions.
Performance Impact
Negligible — dedicated IPs have no inherent performance advantage over shared IPs. Performance depends on server load, routing, and bandwidth allocation.
